YOUR WEEKLY UPDATE FROM HURST JUNIOR HIGH
8/21/2026
Hurst families,
Just like that, we've completed our first full week of school, and Flight 2627 is settling into its rhythm!
Last week was about the excitement of takeoff. This week, we got to see what we've really been waiting for ... Hurst coming back to life. Picture Day brought plenty of smiles. Athletics is underway with tryouts, cuts, practices, and scrimmages. Our Fine Arts students are getting in tune with scale tests and sectionals. 🎶
Math is mathin'.
There's poetry happenin' in ELA.
And our scientists have already made their way into the labs. 🧪
In other words...
School is SCHOOLIN' at Hurst! ❤️
And it has been so good to see.
🎓 SETTING THE ACADEMIC STANDARD
This week, we also began establishing the routines and expectations that will help our students be successful academically throughout the year.
One of those is ICU Wednesday, which provides an intentional structure for addressing missing work and helping students understand that completing their learning is an expectation ... not an option.
As we move deeper into the school year, we appreciate our families regularly checking grades and talking with students about assignments, deadlines, and asking for help when they need it.
❤️ CONSISTENCY MATTERS
We've also moved from teaching our campuswide expectations to consistently reinforcing them.
Our students have responded incredibly well, and we want to keep that momentum going.
Middle schoolers are middle schoolers ... they're going to need reminders! 😊 Our commitment is to provide those reminders while maintaining clear, consistent expectations for how we learn, move through our building, and treat one another.
That's where our partnership with you matters.
When the message students hear at school matches the message they hear at home, that's powerful.
🏈🎶 AND WE'RE JUST GETTING STARTED...
The classroom isn't the only place our Raiders are getting to work. Athletics and Fine Arts are gearing up, clubs and activities are beginning to take shape, and soon our calendar will be FULL of opportunities to come out and support our students.
I hope you'll join us when you can.
There's something special about watching our students discover the places where they belong, the things they're good at, and the people who will help them grow.
We're only two weeks into this First Class journey, but I like where we're headed.
Thank you for your continued partnership, Hurst families. Enjoy your weekend, and we'll see our Raiders Monday!
Hurst is First! ❤️✈️
We do great things for kids and each other every day
in a safe and positive environment.
