Hurst families,

Flight 2627 is officially in the air, and we could not have asked for a better start!

Our students have done an amazing job this first week. From Raider Camp to the first day of school, they have brought great energy, adjusted to routines, and shown tremendous Raider pride.

We also had a BIG reason to celebrate this week: 

Hurst Junior High officially earned an A accountability rating from the Texas Education Agency with 6 out of 7 Distinction Designations! ❤️

One of my favorite moments was hearing our returning students proudly say, “WE DID THAT!”

They sure did and we are incredibly proud of them!

As we head into Week 2, we're ready to settle into our regular routines. Here are a few things families can help us with as we continue our First Class start.

🪪 ID BADGES: READY TO WEAR

Every student has now been issued an ID badge, so beginning next week, we will begin consistently enforcing our district expectation that students wear their ID badge while at school.

We even provided students with carabiners so they can clip their badge to their backpack at the end of the day—one less thing to remember in the morning!

If a student arrives without a badge, they will receive a temporary badge to wear for the day and will serve a lunch detention. If a parent is able to bring the student's badge before their lunch period, the student will not serve the detention. Students who purchase a replacement badge will also not serve lunch detention.

Replacement costs: Badge – $3 | Lanyard – $1 | Plastic sleeve – $1

Our goal isn't to “catch” students without badges. We're building the habit of arriving prepared each day, and we'd appreciate your help with that routine at home.

💻 CHROMEBOOKS & CHARGERS

Students who did not have a Chromebook should have been issued a device by today. Students have also had multiple opportunities this week to report devices that are lost, damaged, or otherwise need attention.

One important reminder: loaner devices and chargers are not available simply because a student forgot theirs at home.

Please help your Raider develop a nightly routine of charging the Chromebook and putting both the Chromebook and charger in their backpack for the next day.

Being First Class means being ready to learn when the day begins.

👕 A NOTE ABOUT DRESS CODE

We know dress code has become a popular topic of conversation, so I want to be clear about our approach at Hurst: we are following the expectations established by HEB ISD.

Our students have done a great job responding when reminders or corrections have been needed, and we appreciate our families helping students come to school within district expectations.

Our goal is always to handle concerns respectfully, consistently, and with as little disruption to learning as possible.
