Good to know info as you get started:
✅ HEB adults have access to this tool
❌ HEB students DO NOT have access to this tool
▩ This tool lives in your Google Workspace waffle
🧠 This beautifully compliments your curriculum
Welcome to a short series about the fantastic tool that is NotebookLM! It's an AI tool that focuses on only what you give it and produces some excellent resources that can be shared with students.
In coming weeks we will dissect a piece of LM and analyze how it can work for you in your teaching.
NotebookLM is Google’s AI-powered note-taking sidekick. Drop in your Docs, Slides, PDFs, or links, and it turns into a conversation partner for your content. You can ask it to summarize, clarify, pull out key themes, or even help you build study materials, and it only uses the sources YOU uploaded.
Visit https://notebooklm.google.com and sign in with your Google account.
If you’re logged into your Google Workspace account, you can also access NotebookLM through the “waffle” (Google apps launcher) in the top right corner of your screen.
Docs (Word or Google)
Slides (PowerPoint or Google)
YouTube Video links
Website links
PDFs
Copied and pasted text
CSV files or Spreadsheets (Excel or Google)
Images (JPEG, PNG, etc)
Search the web for sources on your topic to import
Once your documents/sources are in a notebook, NotebookLM lets you chat with your content. You can ask questions like “What are the key takeaways?” or “Explain this concept.”
The responses are grounded in ONLY your sources and usually include citations to the exact text.
The chat window is your interactive interface. You can refine questions or follow up to dig deeper into your material.
You can also name your chat by just clicking in the top left on the title it is automatically given.
You can have up to 100 notebooks!
You can upload 50 sources into a notebook in the free version

This week's inspiration comes from @totallynotcam on TikTok. He's not an educator, but this activity looks so fun!
This game isn't particularly academic, but it would be SO fun to do with extra time.
You could use it academically by putting questions on the other side of the papers for them to stop and answer. OR answers on the back that correspond to questions around the room. They would have to run and match the answer to the correct question to win.
