Given what we know about effective coaching practices, how can we skillfully and effectively implement these coaching practices to help teachers identify student-based learning goals, learn new instructional strategies, and improve learning outcomes for students? Through this completely online collaborative action research class, instructional coaches will work towards improving their effectiveness in implementing the instructional coaching Impact Cycle (based primarily on the coaching work of Jim Knight).
Participants should be in an active coaching role at their school, and have a minimum of one year of experience as an instructional coach. It is also highly recommended that participants have previously completed some training from Jim Knight such as “Instructional Coaching - Level 1” (Jim Knight model), “High Impact Instruction”, “Focus on Instruction: Using Video for Professional Development”, and/or “Better Conversations”.
Through the learning modules participants will:
Set personal coaching goals and
Collect data on the coaching cycles completed with teachers
Complete video recordings of their own coaching sessions
Reflect on their coaching practice in relation to their learning around the coaching impact cycle and their own personal learning goals
Receive feedback from their AEA coach on their coaching videos and reflection
Credits: 1 credits (License Renewal or Drake Graduate Credit available)
Space is limited to allow for adequate feedback from AEA coaches!
