On Wednesday, May 3rd, Blakelock hosted its very first Wellness Fair in the large gym. Organized by the Wellness Club and Mme. Mowbray, the TAB community and organizations from all over Oakville came together to participate in the event. The gym was filled with students, who all came to learn about their community partners as well as join in on the fun.
The Wellness Club worked together to reach out to community partners and bring them to Blakelock. The club also set up various activities such as bracelet making, giant jenga, stress ball creation, colouring, and zumba to entertain students as well as promote the positive impact that well-being has. Students were able to make various stress-relieving projects and participate in a group lesson of zumba led by a local instructor.

In addition to the engagement activities, over 20 local organizations set up individual booths to connect with students about wellness services provided in the community. Organizations such as Lighthouse, GoodLife Fitness, ADAPT, the Oakville Public Library were present. As students visited booths they were able to collect raffle tickets by participating and connecting with other community members.
The raffle prizes lined an entire wall of the gym and were generously donated from organizations such as McDonald’s, the Oakville Public Library, GoodLife Fitness, as well as many other kits that were curated by the Wellness Club. Free treats, books, gift cards, water bottles, and meal kits were all available to be won. The following day, the winners were announced, and over 10 participants were able to claim a prize.
The Wellness Fair was a huge success; students from all grades participated and we are eager to see what the following year has to bring.
De-stressing activity!
