Doug standing with his trusty ladder.
On the 30th of November, Doug Ecker, one of our custodial staff members was interviewed. It was very inspiring interacting with Doug. He told us that he could, “do an interview in 10 minutes, [and needs] to clean the cafeteria,” and exactly 10 minutes later, he had cleaned the entire cafeteria alongside Maddie Grozier, the other custodian; truly a testament to their efficiency.
Doug has gained experience at 12 different schools before Blakelock, which he says is a great place to work at. Doug has sadly placed TAB as the second best, to a school named John T. Tuck Elementary School. Blakelock is the largest school Doug has ever worked for, which is impressive due to his incredible 22 years of custodial experience.
Sadly, every job has its ups and downs. Doug’s least favourite aspect of the job is, “cleaning out bathrooms after big parties.” His most favourite thing about his job is going to work everyday, and seeing everyone at the school.
Another thing that Doug likes about being a custodian is how it’s not the same boring routine every day; each day is diverse. Additionally, Doug has several opportunities to talk to so many different students and teachers and find out more about their day-to-day lives.
Doug said that if he could tell everyone one thing, he would tell them, “go with the flow, do what you like, and don’t listen to anyone else, and do what you think you should do.” Truly inspiring.
