Margarita Galchinska and her coach Ms. Bovey after an intensive early morning practice
Interviewer: I'm here with TAB athlete Margarita Galchinska, who's off to compete at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) competition for track and field in the javelin event.
So how do you feel about the sport of javelin and our chances for gold?
Margarita: Well, I've been training since grade nine. So, since 2019, I've been practicing with my friend from Hayden who actually has their own javelin. I've been throwing every few days, waiting throughout covid to finally compete.
It was quite a long wait, to get to OFSAA. So, now I've finally gotten to this point where I've been training really hard and hopefully, I'll actually get the gold, but you know, things never work out the way you plan it. But I'm hoping for a good performance.
Interviewer: Who is your coach?
Margarita: Ms. Bovey. We’ve also got Mr. Rochus and Ms. Salerno. Ms. McAllan's been throwing with me as well. So we’ve got a whole team of people helping me out with this.
Interviewer: Excellent! So how do you prepare for these competitions? Do you have a specific routine, special diet, or any superstitions?
Margarita: Oh no. Honestly, I prepared by mostly stretching and just making sure I come to practices and throw on my own time. Doing a lot of stretches and fitness stuff is my main priority when preparing for competition, I guess.
Training session with Margarita and Ms. Bovey
Interviewer: Blakelock has a proud history of great competitiveness from the sports arena to music competitions to academic competitions and things like that. You could say we are a well-balanced school. So speaking about balance, how do you balance your life with your training schedule?
Margarita: It’s a struggle, but that’s the life of an OFFSA athlete.
Interviewer: Well, we wish you well in your competition and thanks for the interview, Margarita. Go TABBY TIGERS!!!
