Welcome to Guitar class. This course is designed for students with any kind of prior guitar experience. That means, if you have played guitar for many years, or if you have never touched a guitar, this course is for you. This course challenges students to continuously improve their guitar knowledge and skill from the first day of the semester until the end.
Throughout this course students will learn:
- Chords (both basic and complex)
- Scales (Major, Minor, Blues, Pentatonic, Modes)
- Improvisation
- Chord progressions
- Songs (of may different genres)
- Technique and skills
- Fingerpicking, strumming patterns, chord/melody
Students will be evaluated on their progress throughout the semester. So it is not necessarily the "best" guitar player that will be the most sucessful in this course. As long as students are making a stong effort everyday in class to improve and expand on their prior guitar experience they will be extremely successful in this course.
Course Outline:
Introduction to the Guitar:
Learn to play a melody, chord progression, scale and how to tune your guitar
Learn basic guitar maintenance, technique and skills
Teach a guitar technique to the class
Teach a song to the class
Learn the notes on the Fretboard
Learn to read multiple forms of reading music
Improvisation
Learn a variety of Scales and Modes
Compose a song that features an improvised solo section
12 bar blues improvisation evaluation
Major, Minor and pentatonic improvisation evaluations
Composition & Repertoire:
Learn/compose a song from a different genre
Independent genre project
Compose and Record a 2 part song with 3 sections
Race to the top 25 songs project!
Compose your own 12 bar blues
Write and record a song for the vocal class
Learn/compose a song in an Alternate tuning
Written Projects:
