Social Skills
Children are encouraged to:
listen to simple instructions and follow through with them
be curious and receptive to learning new things
play, share and take turns with others
participate in group activities such as story time at the library
tidy up by putting away toys, crayons, etc.
Independence Skills
Children are encouraged to be independent when:
putting on th
eir
own clothes, coat, socks and shoes
toileting- from beginning to end
washing hands
blowing th
eir
nose
eating, including opening containers and juice boxes
opening and closing backpacks
Fine Motor Skills
Children are encouraged to strengthen fine motor skills by:
block building, lacing
colouring, painting and gluing
practising how to use scissors with their ‘thumb on top’
practising correct pencil grip
printing name - first letter should be upper case and the rest lower case
Early Literacy and Numeracy Skills
Children are encouraged to develop literacy and numeracy skills by:
singing songs like the 'Alphabet

ong' and playing alphabet games
becoming familiar with short poems and nursery rhymes
playing games involving counting and rhyming
looking for numbers and letters in everyday places
identifying letters of the

counting items during play
