Hamilton High School is proud to partner with CCHMC to improve access to care within the community. This program involves independently licensed and highly trained therapists to work with students referred for several reasons, such as depression, anxiety, anger management, coping with life changes, managing stress or worry, and difficulty with social relationships.
Students are identified by parents, teachers, staff, and administrators. Once identified, the student's school counselor will contact the student's legal guardian to obtain verbal permission to submit a referral to the CCHMC clinician. Once permission is given and a referral is submitted, the CCHMC therapist will contact the student's legal guardian to set up an intake appointment, which takes place at the school. During this appointment, the CCHMC clinician will complete a diagnostic assessment. If school-based services are appropriate, sessions can begin. If additional services are needed, the CCHMC therapist will help the family access those services.
If you are interested in scheduling an appointment with a therapist, have questions, or need additional information, please contact your child’s school counselor.
Envision Groups are led by a prevention professional to give students additional support to be successful in school and life. Often, having a caring adult and peer system that encourages healthy coping skills can be the difference a youth may need to succeed. Groups of 5-10 youth meet once a week in school to discuss a specific topic, share in a safe environment, and learn skills that are often paired with an activity.
The intended audience for this program are students who need additional support due to recent loss or disruption of home life, who are experiencing a drop in grades or other indicator of increased stress, or who are experiencing other social-emotional factors putting them at higher risk.
Students who participate in Envision Groups will build peer relationships and skills that will keep them on track for graduation and prepare for the next phase in school and life. Topics may include:
Self-esteem & confidence
Refusal skills
Effects of substance use on decision-making
Healthy coping skills
Effective communication
Reducing risky behaviors to align with goals and values
If you would like your child to participate in the Envision Groups, have questions, or need additional information, please contact your child’s school counselor.
Companions on a Journey (COJ) is a faith-based social service organization that provides bereavement support and educational services. The School-based Grief Support program helps transform schools into grief-informed spaces where students can process complicated feelings of grief and loss, connect with a caring community, and build a toolbox of critical wellness and resiliency skills. Students engage in crafts and exercises that promote mental and physical well-being. All of these activities are tailored to the student’s developmental stage and provide a fun, relatable platform where grief can be shared and students feel heard and supported by caring adults and their peers.
If you would like your child to participate in COJ, have questions, or need additional information, please contact your child’s school counselor.
The goal of the Success Program is to help families overcome non-cognitive barriers so that children can be successful in school. Success Liaisons are assigned to specific school district buildings and help struggling students and families access resources to meet their needs. Common examples are food, clothing, housing, medical and dental treatment, navigation of public benefits, mental health treatment, and school supplies, however, liaisons attempt to meet any need that a family may have.
Liaisons also support parents in an educational setting by facilitating school meetings and communication between families and staff. The Success Program collaborates with many community partners, which further supports families with access to increased resources.
The Success Program is available free of charge to all families who have students attending a school district where services are offered, and who fall at or below 200% of Federal Poverty Guidelines.
If you would like to participate in the Success Program, have questions, or need additional information, please contact your child’s school counselor.
