Summer is a great time to discover new stories and favorite authors, and this year 90 students completed a summer reading log! Each of these students read the California Young Reader Medal (CYRM) nominated books for his or her age category as well as other age appropriate books for a total of 9 books.  Ice cream parties were held in September, and at each ice cream party, there was a book discussion and voting on the CYRM nominated books.

Way to go South Tigers!  Over seventy-five students read over the summer and turned in their reading logs by September 1st.  Congratulations again go to third grade for having the most readers. Students who completed their summer reading logs read 9 books over the summer, including all the books in one California Young Reader Medal category. The ice cream parties will be Monday, September 11th (Primary Books), Wednesday, September 13th (Picture Books for Older Readers), and Thursday, September 14th (Intermediate Books).  Students will discuss the CYRM books, vote for their favorite book, and then enjoy vanilla ice cream with whipped cream and sprinkles.

Just like last summer, we had a huge group of South students complete their summer reading--88 to be precise!!  Third grade had the most participation, with 24 students reading over the summer and remembering to turn in their summer reading logs.

South students were amazing readers in the summer of 2021, with 90 students completing summer reading logs!! All of the readers were treated to ice cream during the week of September 13th. This year's reading list featured the California Young Reader Medal books in three categories, Primary, Picture Books for Older Readers, and Intermediate. Students will be able to vote for their favorite title within each category later in the school year.
