Summer is the perfect time to explore new stories, discover favorite authors, and grow as a reader! South School’s Summer Reading Program features titles selected by the California Young Reader Medal (CYRM) Committee, a unique student-driven award where kids across California vote for their favorite books.
How It Works:
Read all CYRM nominees in your grade-level category (listed below).
Then, choose additional age-appropriate books until you’ve read a total of 9 books.
Have a parent or guardian initial each book on your reading log.
Turn in your completed Summer Reading Log to Mrs. Glasgo by Monday, September 15, 2025.
Once you've finished, you’ll become an official Summer Reading Club member and earn an invitation to one of our Ice Cream Celebration Parties!
Ice Cream Celebrations
K–2 Celebration: Monday, September 22 (Primary Books)
Grades 3–5 Celebration: Tuesday, September 23 (Picture Books for Older Readers + Chapter Books for Intermediate Readers)
Bring your lunch, chat about great books, cast your CYRM vote, and enjoy a sweet treat!
Students who read books from multiple categories may attend more than one celebration.
