Ping Pong Tournaments 2023 and 2024

The graduating class of 2023 gave South School a wonderful gift--a ping pong table!  This year, there will be two ping pong tournaments on our new table, one in the fall and one in the late winter.

Beginning on November 8th, South students can sign up to play in South's Fall Ping Pong Tournament! Students may sign up to participate in the Singles or the Doubles competition. Preliminary rounds will begin on November 15th for grades TK to 4th. Preliminary rounds for 5th grade participants will begin on November 29th.

The finals of the Doubles competition will take place on December 6th and the finals of the Singles competition will take place on December 7th.

Students may sign up during their book borrowing time at the library or during recess! Students may come in at recess prior to the Preliminary rounds to practice, and all South students are welcome to watch the competition.

Pumpkin Contest and Carving Winners 2023

Over 55 students brought in their imaginative pumpkins this year.  Thank you to all the South families for sharing their creativity.  We had multiple Taylor Swift pumpkins as well as Barbie pumpkins this year.  South students are always in tune with pop culture!

The five pumpkins receiving the most votes were the following (in no particular order): Two-story Woodland Fairy House and Garden by Amelie G and Ada V; Pumpkin Spice Latte by Simonne T; Fairy House by Reisha P; Gumball Machine by Colette W; and The Hamburger by Adeline and Elyse Lee

Halloween Pumpkin Carving and Decorating Contest 2023

This inspiring annual event will take place on Tuesday, October 31st.  All pumpkins must be delivered to the South Library by 8:45 am on Halloween.  Everyone on campus that day will be able to vote for their favorite pumpkins, and pumpkins will be identified by number.

Following are the specific guidelines for the contest:

1) Families may work together to carve and/or decorate pumpkins. Remember not to carve your pumpkin more than 2 days in advance of October 31st.

2) All carved and decorated pumpkins must be dropped off at the South Library between 8:00 am to 8:45 am on October 31st ONLY.  Any pumpkins delivered after 8:45 am on October 31st will still be placed in the library for all to see, but voting by South students, teachers, and parents will begin between 8:45 and 9:00 am.

3) Voting will take place on October 31st from 8:45 am to 12:00 pm.  Each member of the South community who is on campus on Halloween may vote for 5 pumpkins, and those voting may vote only once for each pumpkin. Thus, student carvers and decorators, or their parents, may vote only once for their own pumpkin.

4) Student, teacher, and parent votes will be tallied during lunch on Halloween, and the five winners will be announced before the end of school on October 31st. The winners will report to the library for a photo and may select a small, felted prize generously donated by South parent Sa Sharma.

5) All pumpkins must be picked up from the South Library by 3:30 pm. Any pumpkins left after this time will be composted or shared with others.

Halloween Pumpkin Carving Contest Winners

Carved and decorated pumpkins were brought to the South Library on Friday, October 29, 2021.  We had over 70 entries!!  Thank you students and parents for sharing your creativity. After all students cast their votes, the six entries shown in the photo to the left received the most votes.
