Current Library News

The Battle of the Books Finals on Tuesday, March 21st at 6 pm! Hillsborough's own version of March Madness happens every year in March with student teams from North, South, and West competing for the Battle of the Books trophy. Student teams read 10 books in a variety of genres from May to March, and then they compete against each other in a Kahoot quiz competition.  This year, the Finals will take place in the South Library at 6 pm.  Doors will open at 5:45 pm. There will be six teams competing for the trophy, with two teams from each Hillsborough elementary school. All members of the Hillsborough community are invited to attend the Finals and cheer on the final teams.

It's time for the Reading Challenge T-Shirt Contest!  All South students are encouraged to submit a drawing celebrating reading to Mrs. James by Friday, May 24th.  The winning design will be featured on the Reading Challenge T-Shirt, awarded to all students who complete the Reading Challenge.  (Students do not need to complete the Reading Challenge to enter).

The next Reading Tigers meetings will be on April 19th (2nd and 3rd grade) and April 20th (4th and 5th grade).  The titles are as follows: Bat Pig: When Pigs Fly by Rob Harrell (2nd), The Lemonade Crime by Jacqueline Davies (3rd), Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library by Chris Grabenstein (4th), Heat by Mike Lupica (5th).

Finally, remember to join The Judy Goetzl Birthday Book Club so that the South Library can continue to have wonderful new materials.  New this year: There are monthly "birthday parties" at lunchtime for those students whose parents join The Judy Goetzl Birthday Book Club.  Students enjoy lunch, browse the new books, pick a book they'd like to be the first to read, and then enjoy a delicious cupcake!  Click here to join for your child.  Click here to see the latest books added to the South Library by the Birthday Book donations.  Many thanks to those families who have joined this year.

Library Collection

The South Library has over 18,000 books. There is something for every reading level and interest.  Fiction books are sorted into broad reading levels, with collections for Easy Readers, Picture Books, Early Series, Chapter Books (arranged by genre), and Graphic Novels.  The nonfiction collection is particularly robust, with numerous animal books, picture book biographies, crafts books, and sports books. New books are added often--thank you parents for donating to the Birthday Book Club!  Check out the Birthday Book tab to see the latest books donated to the library.
