Hello South School Families! I'm excited about being your next Librarian and feel truly honored to join the South School community. I am committed to ensuring that our library remains a warm, inclusive, and inspiring space where every student feels welcome and empowered to explore, imagine, and grow.
My vision for the library is to foster a love of reading, support student learning across all subject areas, and spark curiosity. I look forward to collaborating with students, teachers, and families to create meaningful learning experiences, celebrate stories from all voices, and help students become confident, capable, and joyful readers and researchers.

Thanks to the generosity of South parents, new books are added to the South Library each month through the Judy Goetzel Birthday Book Club. With your donation, your child has the pleasure of choosing a new book from our special birthday collection and being the first to check it out. Each book includes a beautiful book label on the inside cover, celebrating your donation and your child's special day. Please consider joining to help us grow our library collection with exciting new titles for all students to enjoy. Summer is the perfect time to dive into new stories , discover favorite authors, and grow as readers! Our summer reading program features books selected by the California Young Reader Medal (CYRM) Committee. Students who read all the titles in a category (plus 3-5 additional titles) will be invited to vote for their favorite, joining thousands of young readers across CA in selecting the winners of this unique, student-chosen award. Summer Reading Logs are due to Mrs. Glasgo in the Library by Monday, September 15th. To celebrate, we will be hosting lunchtime ice cream parties and book discussions on September 22nd and 23rd. Invitations will be sent home a few days before the celebrations.

Students In grades 2-5 are Invited to join our award-winning lunchtime book club. Reading Tigers will meet in small, parent-led groups (of 4-7 students) to discuss the books and engage in fun, book-related activities. Participating students are expected to finish reading the assigned book before each meeting. For students still developing fluency, we encourage parents to read the books aloud or share the reading together. Before each meeting 15-25 copies of the featured books will be available for checkout In the library. Parents are welcome to sign up their children online and 3rd-5th grade students will also be able to sign up during their library visits. Interested in leading a group? We would love your help! Hillsborough's Battle of the Books is a friendly, but competitive, trivia competition based on books in several different genres. In 2024 this program won the Kent Award from San Mateo County. Teams may have 2, 3, or 4 members; all members must be 4th or 5th grade from the same school. Teams have from May 2025 to March 2026 to become familiar with 10 titles in a variety of genres. The three rounds of the Battle will take place in March 2026, and the two winning teams from each school will compete in the district-wide finals at West School on Tuesday, 3/24/26 at 6:00pm. The first two rounds are open book, but the finals will be closed book. For more information, click HERE.
If your child Is looking for some fun new books to read, or If you'd like to read a variety of picture books with your younger child, join our reading challenge! Students have a year to read a variety of books (selected from the hundreds of books I've read). The number and types of books vary by grade level, and all students who complete the challenge (and turn in their answers by Friday, April 17th, 2026,) will receive school-wide recognition, be invited to a special movie night in the library, and receive a cool reading t-shirt designed by a South student.
