So many books, so little time: Don't forget that Mrs. James has some outstanding books on her Reading Challenge lists.  Make sure to find the appropriate list for your child's grade level. South students may also sign up for Reading Tigers and Battle of the Books.  So many books to enjoy . . . 


Ping Pong Tournament: The South Winter Ping Pong tournament begins the week of January 6th. South students should sign up upon returning from winter break for either the doubles or the singles tournament.


Battle of the Books! Student teams read 10 books in a variety of genres from May 2024 to March 2025, and then compete against other teams in Kahoot quiz competitions.  Round 1 in 2025 will take place on Thursday, March 13th, and Round 2 will be on Thursday, March 20th at the respective elementary schools.  The Finals will be on Tuesday, March 25th at North School.  Fourth and 5th graders, here is the new list of 10 books so you can be ready for March's competition!

Next Reading Tigers Meetings are January 29th and 30th: The third meetings of the Reading Tigers will be Wednesday, January 29th at noon (for second and third graders) and Thursday, January 30th at noon (for fourth and fifth graders).  The book titles are as follows: Second Grade, Batpig: When Pigs Fly by Ron Harrell; Third Grade, The Lemonade Crime by Jacqueline Davies; Fourth Grade, The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan; Fifth Grade, Freewater by Amina Luqman-Dawson.  Remind your child to pick up a copy of the book today.

The South Library has over 17,000 books. There is something for every reading level and interest.  Fiction books are sorted into broad reading levels, with collections for Easy Readers, Picture Books, Early Series, Chapter Books (arranged by genre), and Graphic Novels.  The nonfiction collection is particularly robust, with numerous animal books, picture book biographies, crafts books, and sports books. New books are added often--thank you parents for donating to the Birthday Book Club!

South Wins Battle of the Books in 2024: Hillsborough's own version of March Madness ended in the West MPR on Tuesday, March 26th with the South team of PAWsome Readers winning the trophy!!  This was South's second Battle of the Books win.  PAWsome Readers competed against the best teams from North and West as well as South's very own Devin BOOKers.
