2026-2027 Long-Term Reading Challenge
Each May, the South Library launches a long-term reading challenge for students in TK through 5th grade. This annual tradition encourages a love of reading and invites students to explore a wide variety of books over the summer and into the next school year. Students receive a thoughtfully curated list of titles across different genres, reading levels, and interests.
Many families choose to read these books together, using them as a chance to talk about ideas, share stories, and connect through reading. The challenge is flexible, allowing students to read at their own pace and choose how they respond to what they read through creative and reflective activities. Books can be checked out from our school library or a nearby public library (such as Burlingame Public Library or San Mateo Public Library), or purchased from your local bookstore.
Reading logs and responses are due the following April. Students who complete the challenge will receive a special t-shirt designed by South students and an invitation to a movie and pizza celebration in the library to recognize their effort and love of reading.
