Students explore a carefully selected list of books filled with exciting stories and memorable characters
They use their detective skills to:
Match quotes to the correct book
Identify the character who said each line
Students have from June through April to complete the challenge, allowing them to read at their own pace.
A great way to stay motivated, deepen reading comprehension, and have fun with books

For the 2025-2026 Reading Challenge, answers are due by April 17, 2025.
All students who complete the Reading Challenge will receive school-wide recognition, a movie night in the library, and a special reading t-shirt designed by a South student.
Receive a list of 25 wonderful, recently published picture books, each featuring diverse stories, relatable characters, and beautiful illustrations.
They are also given one quote from each book.
Their challenge is to:
Match the quote to the correct title
Identify the character who said the line

3rd Grade Students read 16 books
They may read 10 books from the K-2nd grade list
They must read at least 6 books from the 4th-5th grade fiction and nonfiction lists
For each book, students may choose to:
Find a quote
Create a bookmark
Write a short summary
4th+ 5th Grade Students read 15 books
Books can be chosen from either the fiction or nonfiction list
