I love scavenger hunts. I created this activity based on a conversation with a friend about an age-old issue faced by librarians and parents--how do you get kids to read some outstanding stories they might never have considered?  My solution was to design a year-long reading scavenger hunt. For students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade, I provide students with a list of 25 great new picture books (from the hundreds I read yearly) and a quote from each of the books.  Their challenge is to match the quote to the book and to identify the character who said the line.  As students get older, the challenge gets harder, but they have more choice.
