At the end of 6th grade, all CC6 students will be assessed. Sixth-grade students in CC6 will be placed into CC7 unless they demonstrate readiness for the compressed path. A student needs to meet all three criteria to be recommended for the Compressed CC 7/8 path.
Criteria for Placement Recommendation:
Mathematics Diagnostic Testing Project (MDTP)
All CC 6 students will take a Grade 7 Mathematics Readiness Assessment developed by CSU/UC Mathematics Diagnostic Testing Project (MDTP). This assessment covers foundational math standards from grade 6 and below. A student needs to score at least 36/40 on this assessment to be considered for the compressed track.
Math Assessment Resource Service (MARS)
All CC 6 students will take a MARS (Math Assessment Resource Service) Assessment. This assessment is a collaborative effort between UC Berkeley, Michigan State, and the Shell Centre in Nottingham, England. The assessment consists of several independent performance tasks. This assessment provides evidence of procedural skills, conceptual understanding, and mathematical thinking. Students must score an average of 90% on four MARS Open-Ended tasks. To establish readiness to accelerate with confidence, the expectation is that each of the performance tasks will be completed within a 30-minute window.
Course Performance
Students must earn a grade of 90% or greater each trimester in CC6 Math. Teacher recommendation may be used as one component to support a shift into the compressed path.
