"Breaking Cylence" is the mixed, varsity show choir at Harlan High School composed of singers and dancers in grades 9-12. This choir meets twice a week after school and membership is by audition. This show choir competes in three competitions during the months of January to March and travels nationally around the country. In addition to these competitions, "Breaking Cylence" performs two mandatory home concerts, hosts their home competition "Cyclone Cynsation" and performs within the community. Other performances may be added at a later date. Students in "Breaking Cylence" build upon their strong musical abilities and strong community-building skills and are exposed to various forms of music. Students are expected to participate in the High School Concert Choir, unless otherwise discussed with the director, and a small costume fee is associated with the choir.Â
