An all-inclusive college preparatory program aimed at scaffolding high school students with disabilities as they transition into post-secondary education. This initiative provides essential resources, guidance, and support to help students navigate the college admissions process and succeed in higher education. Eligible participants include high school students who have completed grades 9 through 12 and are on track to receive their high school diploma.
Student who are currently in 11th & 12th grade can apply to attend Project ACCESS
Through crafted academic support, skill-building, and field trips, Project ACCESS equips students with the tools they need to achieve their educational & career goals; this includes:
Stronger Academic Prep – Help with getting ready for the challenges of college work by improving skills.
Self-Advocacy – Learn how to speak up for your needs, ask for help, and navigate the college environment.
Executive Functioning – Learn how to stay organized, manage your time, study effectively, and do well on tests.
Understanding College Admissions – Get help with the college application process, especially for students with disabilities, to make the transition easier.
Awareness of Legal Rights & Accommodations – Understand your rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the support available in college for students with disabilities.
Practical Understanding of Assistive Technology – Use tools and resources that help with learning and make things easier to access.
Career Readiness & Professional Skills – Explore different careers, build a resume, and develop job skills for the future.
Real-World College Experience – Practice managing a college schedule, using online learning tools, and navigating a college campus to build confidence and independence.
Boost College Readiness & Success – Help students gain the skills, confidence, and resources they need to do well in college by joining fun social events.
Support Different Learning Needs – Create a welcoming learning environment by using different teaching methods and providing support that fits each student’s learning style.
Encourage Career Exploration & Goal-Setting – Help students discover their strengths, interests, and possible careers through a course that includes self-assessment, research, and planning for future jobs.
High school students will take part in a 4-week program to improve their skills in writing, reading, math, study habits, speaking up for themselves, using technology, career planning, and staying healthy.
The program also helps students learn more about what college life is like, including:
College Test Expectations – Learn about important tests for college and how to prepare for them with confidence.
The Senior Intro - Helps 11th-grade students research colleges, understand admission rules, and learn important college terms while exploring their options.
The College Readiness - Supports 12th-grade students in applying to college, scheduling tests, meeting with disability counselors, finding the right accommodations, and building skills for college success.
Students can go on three college trips or events every Friday to learn about college life and future education options.
Summer Institute teachers are experts in their subjects and have lots of experience.
College students who are doing well serve as peer mentors to help & guide students.
Project Access students can join social events all year long.
