The Gulf War or Operation Desert Storm was a war fought between Iraq and 42 countries in a coalition by the United States. The coalition fought against Iraq and made 2 phases called Operation Desert Shield that signified military buildup starting August 1990 to January 1991, and Operation Desert Storm against Iraq on 17 January 1991 and stopped ending with the liberation of Kuwait on 28 February 1991.
At the time of the second of August 1990, ruled by Saddam Hussein the nation of Iraq invaded Kuwait and took control in just 2 days. Kuwait now controlled by Iraq, made a puppet government and then annexed Kuwait. Its land was split with the Saddamiyat al-Mitla' District from Kuwait's northern area, and the Kuwait Governorate occupying the rest. Different Point of Views have been created about the invasion, mainly Iraq being unable to pay back it's 14 billion dollars in debt to the United States to finance its war with Iran. Kuwait's wants more petroleum production as repayment that made Iraq very poor and destabilized economic prospects in the 1980s, and oil production in Kuwait made oil prices around the globe cheaper. Iraq thought that Kuwait not accepting to lower oil production as aggression to Iraq's economy, lead to the invasion.
The result of invading Kuwait was met with aggression worldwide like Resolution 660, and sanctions. Margaret Thatcher who is the prime minister of the UK and the George W. Bush at the time was the President of the U.S, sent vehicles and soldiers to Saudi Arabia and wanted other nations to do the same. Tons of nations joined the alliance led by the United States, which was the biggest Alliance group ever since World War II. The main powers of the alliance were the United States, Saudi Arabia, the UK, and Egypt. Saudi Arabia and the exiled Kuwaiti government paid 32 billion out of 60 billion to mobilize the invasion of Iraq.
Resolution 678 on the 29th of November 1990 gave Iraq another chance until the 15th of January 1991 of Resolution 660 to move out of Kuwait. That also made states do whatever they can do to move Iraq out of Kuwait. For example, Naval and air bombardments for five weeks straight starting on January 17th, 1991. When Iraq struggled to fend off the attacks, they began to fire missiles at Israel because the alliance didn't include Israel, but the government thought that Israel would retaliate, that will make the majority of Muslim countries leave the alliance. It didn't work however, and Israel didn't fight back. Missile barrages on the alliance in Saudi Arabia also did not work as planned, and 5 days later, the alliance started a massive assault into Kuwait. NOT DONE YET <<<<<<< the invasion was successful, that liberated Kuwait and started to go past the Iraq–Kuwait border into Iraq's mainland. About 3 or more days after the invasion, the alliance stopped advancing into Iraq then declaring a ceasefire.
The fight had live news broadcasts from the fight, majorly by CNN. After daily images taken from cameras on planes in Operation Desert Storm. The war had 3 of the biggest tank battles in history.
