By Gwen and Lana
It was precisely 32 degrees at 6:00 at dawn. Right before the sun came up, a missile hit a tower. The dust covered the whole town around it. The dust cloud was left there for a decade... About eleven years later a boy and a girl went to go investigate. They were both around the age 14. Their names where Lance and Layla. The place was dusty and the ground was buried under rocks. When Lance moved the rocks out of the way, he discovered a sword that was stuck in a locked cabinet, that was stuck in the ground. And a note written with ink in fancy handwriting. The note looked as if it was washed away by the rain.
The note read, "Whoever sees this, if the tower is still standing, protect it from them. And don't let them take the mighty sword that once gave our country their power."
"What is that supposed to mean?" Lance said, getting Layla's attention.
"What are you talking about?" Layla asked, walking over to Lance. "What is that?"
"I don't know. But read this," Lance answered, handing Layla the note.
Layla read it slowly and tried to understand what it meant. She was confused and had no ideas of what it meant.
"You know what it means?" Lance asked hopefully.
"I am just as clueless as you are," Layla replied.
Lance looked disappointed.
"Who is "them"?" Layla wondered.
"Someone the writer of that note does not want anywhere near that tower," Lance answered, "or that cool sword."
"Should we take the sword?" Layla asked.
"Even if I said we should, the sword is locked in that cabinet. And that cabinet looks kind of stuck."
"Well we can't just leave it here. It's evidence."
"Evidence? Of what?"
Layla didn't know. So she just said, "I don't know."
"Maybe we should camp out at the tower," Lance suggested.
"Nah. We can just come back tomorrow."
"You sure that's a good idea?"
"Nope. But I'm heading out. You don't have to come with me."
"Some investigator," Lance mumbled as he followed Layla back home.
They both ended up going to bed still thinking about the note. In the morning they discussed some theories. But none of them seemed to make sense.
So they went to Albert's house. Albert was the friendly neighborhood detective. Layla and Lance thought he might be able to help solve the mystery of why someone shot a missile at a weird tower and who that "someone" is. And why someone left a note saying to protect the tower and the sword in the cabinet, which Lance and Layla were doing a pretty bad job on that request. Layla and Lance asked him to took a look at the note. Albert came up with a theory that made a little more sense.
Albert said, "Perhaps the tower was an important landmark that an opposing side destroyed during a war."
"But don't you think you would have record of a war?" Layla pointed out.
"Actually," Albert replied, "There was a war a few years back."
"A war between whom?" Lance asked.
Albert seemed to be considering if he should tell them or not.
"Are you going to tell us or are we just going to sit here?" Layla asked.
"That is a story for another time. For now you can rest," Albert replied.
"YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME!" Lance shouted.
"But this is the entire purpose of us coming to you!" Layla retorted.
"And it's the middle of the day," Lance complained, pointing out the window. "Why would we need to rest?"
"Because I said so," Albert said harshly.
"Ugh. Fine. Whatever," Layla scoffed as she and her friend made their way out of Albert's cramped residence.
Layla caught the look of worry on Albert's face before she closed the door behind her. They obviously weren't going to rest. It was Albert's excuse for not wanting to tell them. But why would he want to hide who the war was between? They guessed they'd never know. Albert was acting suspicious, making him unreliable.
So they went to go investigate the dusty ruins instead. They both went to look under the rocks and lance found a dent in the ground wich was the same size as the sword in the cabnet.
"Hey bring the sword over here!" Lance shouted from the other side of the ruins.
Layla replied "Why? What have you found?"
" Dont be so stubborn you will see!" He shouted
Layla walked over lance and brung the sword and they both gently placed in the dent " Hey why is this here?" lance asked
"I dont know but we need to find a way to open the cabnet," Layla told him, "But how?"
Lance did not respond but He was staring at the note and he walked around to where they found the note
He said "HEY I GOT IT!"
He ran back quickly and opend the sword and gently placed it in the dent . They heard a loud BANG in the distance wich instantly turned the sky gray and the small gens on the sword sparkled .they both turned around and found a note on top of the cabnet that said. "Dont open me."
