Course ReQuests for 2024 - 2025
The course request process is an essential step in building student's schedules. They are used to determine which classes are being offered, when, and how many sections. In order to ensure your student has the best chance at getting into desired class(es), it is integral for students to submit these on time, accurately.
Review the graduation requirements, student's progress towards meeting those requirements, and
Explore all of the options we have both at Hammond. Visit department's pages to learn more about both courses for graduation and electives.
Consider additional opportunities that may help prepare you for post-secondary success -- Career Academies at ARL, JumpStart Dual Enrollment at HCC, Innovative Pathways Evening/Summer Programs, and Apprenticeship programs!
Plan ahead. Think about where you want to go and what you can take now to prepare. Check course requirements at colleges/universities or course/program prerequisites.

Course Request Process & Timeline
Submit Course Requests - December 18 to January 16
Complete Course Request in HCPSS Connect (Synergy)
Select 7 courses and 4 alternates.
Add 4 alternates.

*ARL Note: Students are now able to select specific ARL classes when making course requests. Be sure to review the ARL Career Academy pages or course catalog for correct sequencing of courses. When students meet with counselors, they can review and adjust as needed. Make sure you prepare for your meeting with your counselor! (Student Services page)
Teacher Recommendations and Course Placement Review
Recommendations for select courses required for graduation have been pre-loaded into student's course requests. To change a recommendation (Ex. Request switch from English 9 Honors to English 9 GT), families will need to submit a Course Placement Review form. View the following links for more:
General Overview
All students will meet with counselors for a course registration appointment during English classes to review course requests and graduation plans.

ExplorE Your Options & Plan Ahead
Visit each Hammond department's page by clicking links below to learn more about courses and electives offered. Completion of a Program Choice pathway (either World Language or a Career Academy/CTE program) is a graduation requirement. Visit each of the Career Academy clusters for information about specific programs within the field, course information, and prerequisites. This includes the Maryland Apprenticeship program. Take advantage of JumpStart Dual Enrollment or Innovative Pathways Summer/Evening School to catch up or get ahead.

Career Academies (Program Choice)
Successful completion of approved CTE and Career Academy programs at Hammond or at ARL satisfy the Program Choice graduation requirement.

Apprenticeship Maryland Programs

Apprenticeship programs may satisfy program choice for graduation requirements, provide real world experiences in the industry, earn a salary, and receive a State Skill Certificate from the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation DLLR. Students begin their apprenticeship during their senior year.
Think you might be interested? Career Research and Development (CRD) I is a great course to help students review interests, learn more about careers, and prepare for post-secondary success in any field. Students should also consider any related Career Academies at HaHS or ARL or related courses at Hammond to develop interests and prepare.

Beginning the Process:
Explore the JumpStart website.
Meet with your counselor. Counselors will advise you for which course(s) you may be eligible and may best support your graduation plan.
Once you complete the registration process with your counselor and HCPSS, you will still need to register for the course at HCC.
HCC Drop In Hours
HCC will be hosting a virtual drop-in "HCC Hour" every Tuesday from 12pm - 1pm, where JumpStart Students can drop in to have all of their HCC-related questions answered. Students will have a chance to ask questions about HCC-based resources, transfer credits or anything else HCC-related on their minds. Schedule ConFerences with Counselors
Sign up for appointments to review graduation plans and course requests with your counselor by sending an email or Canvas message to your counselor. They will all be visiting English classes in January as well.
