"The College and Career Readiness Pillar sets a new College and Career Readiness (CCR) standard that prepares graduates for success in college and the workforce by ensuring they have the knowledge and skills to complete entry-level credit-bearing college courses and work in high-wage and high-demand industries. The Blueprint aims to have all students meet the CCR standard by the end of their 10th grade year, develops CCR-Support pathways to support students in meeting the standard, enables students to enter a Post-CCR pathway that builds on the student’s strengths, develops a Career and Technical Education (CTE) system that is aligned with industry’s needs, and ensures that prekindergarten through 12th grade curriculum, standards, and assessments are all aligned with the new CCR standard." - Blueprint for Maryland's Future, Pillar 3 - College and Career Readiness

Success in the New Economy:

Citrus College supported the production of “Success in the New Economy” to help a broader audience begin to understand preparation today for tomorrow’s labor market realities. The end result is a compelling case for students to explore career choices early, make informed decisions when declaring their college education goal, and to consider technical skill acquisition, real-world application and academics (career technical programs) in tandem with a classic education. This balanced approach to life and learning results in a well-educated and employed workforce.

COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS PATHWAYS:

There are five phases of college and career readiness: Self Awareness, Career Awareness, Career Exploration, Career Preparation, and Career Training. While one never stops working within a phase, the emphasis on each phase transitions throughout one's education, building on previous phases. In Maryland, students in Pre-K through 10th grade are working towards achieving standards of College and Career Readiness. Once that standard is achieved, they can follow three pathways to prepare themselves for Post Secondary opportunities, including: Advanced Placement Courses, Dual Enrollment (AA) Classes, or a CTE/Apprenticeship Route. All routes lead to post-secondary pathways that hopefully lead to  a "high wage job in a high demand industry".
