Career Awareness & Exploration

Career Awareness:

Career Awareness resources link what one discovers in Self-Awareness inventories to actual careers that they can research during the Career Exploration phase of their journey. 

Naviance Resources:

All HCPSS students have access to their Naviance accounts through HCPSS.me (Clever). If you log into Naviance > Self Discovery > Self Discovery Home, you can access the Career Awareness surveys. These surveys are done at the school level but can be done on their own or repeated. 


Career Cluster Finder

Helps you identify your interests and discover career clusters that contain careers that might interest you

Career Interest Profiler

Captures you interests to help identify yoru personality traits and suggest careers based on the US Department of Labor's data. 

Career Key


Helps identify your traits, best match work environments and related careers by asking you questions about your interests. 

Career Exploration:

Once one has linked their skills and interests to potential careers, now it becomes the time for the student to research these potential opportunities to learn if it really fits their passions, could it provide for their desired lifestyle, and what education pathway they would need to take to achieve such a position. 

Career Awareness & Exploration Websites:

The following websites function very much like the Naviance surveys described above. However, while accounts can be set up to save data, students are able to repeatedly take these surveys/assessments in order to produce a list of potential career pathways. In addition, they bridge into deeper Career Exploration aspects. 

Career Explorer


Career Explorer is a on stop shop for Self- & Career-Awareness along with a jumping off point towards Career Exploration. It allows you analyze your personality type, match it to potential careers then research the educational needs for those jobs. 


Montgomery College Career Coach

The Montgomery College Career Coach is another all encompassing awareness and exploration tool in which surveys are used to produced a researchable list of potential careers. 


Career Pathway Dashboard

The Howard County Workforce Development Board has developed a career exploration tool tailored to Howard County's needs and data. The Career Pathway Dashboard breaks it down by Career Cluster of high demand industries and their related occupation.  

Career Exploration Websites:

While these site might have some simple awareness aspects, they are designed to be data drive career exploratory websites. They are built up data from current labor data coupled with work force projections. 

O*Net Online

O*Net Online is the premier career exploration website that allows on to research careers, salaries, educational pathways, workforce projections, skills, and related career references. 

Career One Stop

Sponsored by the US Department of Labor, CareerOneStop provides a comprehensive collection of assessments, career lists, career descriptions, and job seeking help. 

Occupational Outlook Handbook

The Occupational Outlook Handbook is a career exploration site that is based upon workforce projections using data form the US Bureau of Labor and Statistics. 

Roadtrip Nation:

Roadtrip Nation - A site that explores various careers and career pathways through short articles and videos including a search function.
