Algebra 3 With Trigonometry
Hanover County Public Schools
Algebra 3 with Trigonometry can serve as a bit of a bridge between Algebra 2 and Precalculus. This course revisits and builds on some of the key ideas of Algebra 2, including work with functions and equations, to strengthen both procedural and conceptual understanding of algebraic ideas. The second half of the year is devoted to trigonometry - understanding and using the six trigonometric ratios through graphs, analytic trigonometry, and real-world applications.
The Virginia Department of Education does not provide standards for Algebra 3 with Trigonometry, instead providing standards for a one-year course in Mathematical Analysis and a one-semester course in Trigonometry. Hanover County's Algebra 3 with Trigonometry course contains all of the suggested standards for Trigonometry, selected standards from Algebra 2 for review, and selected standards from Mathematical Analysis. Standards included from Mathematical Analysis are: MA.CF.1 (Identify and analyze properties of functions) and MA.FR.2 (exponential and logarithmic functions). Standards included as review from Algebra 2 are A2.EO.4 (complex numbers), A2.EI.2 (quadratic equations), and A2.EI.4 (rational equations).
