Mrs. Garza has worked in education since 2002.  She spent over seven years as a 1st and 3rd grade bilingual teacher.  She first joined HCISD as an Instructional Facilitator in 2009.  She served as principal at Zavala Elementary since 2014.  Under her leadership, Zavala Elementary became an Apple Distinguished School for two consecutive cycles.  In 2016 she was recognized as Region One TEPSAN of the Year by the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association.  She is recognized as an Apple Distinguished Educator, Class of 2017.  Mrs.Garza holds a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies in elementary education and a Master of Educational Administration from The University of Texas-Pan American.  As the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Mrs. Garza is responsible for the overall management of the district’s curriculum and instruction function.
