JCAS YEAR 3 2023
Rearch Skills Presentation
For the final JCAS lesson, our year 3 students presented on their Research Skills (RSK) report. Their topic was on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and they had to choose 1 out of the 17 United Nations SDG. Students were required to identify the global significance of the SDG and examine its relevance to Singapore. There were many interesting topics such as the use of electric vehicles as well as gender discrimination at workplace. Their research yielded many new insights to fellow students and teachers.
Paralympics & House Olympics
At the start of Term 4, Y3 students were given an introduction to the History of Paralympics. In the following week, they had a fun time participating in House Olympics and 3 games played by friends with unique abilities, such as sitting volleyball, goalball, and wheelchair ultimate.
Rise with Resilience
On 25 August 2023, Resilience Rebound was invited to conduct a workshop for all Y3 students to raise students’ awareness of what resilience constitutes and how to deal with stress and failure. The workshop was interactive with role-playing, group discussions and interesting life stories to evoke strong reflections to what youths are experiencing. The instructors also introduced effective mechanism for students to develop resilience and to adapt to failure and setback.

HCIS GIVES BACK 2023
8 AUGUST
On the 8th of August, the year 3s headed out to the various SUNDAC centers to celebrate Singapore's National Day with the clients. After weeks of preparation, the students held a mini carnival with childhood games that the clients are familiar with, such as 'five stones', 'pick up sticks' and 'chapteh'. Other clients were engaged with drawing and coloring of the national flags. In addition, the students also prepared some snacks and held a cake cutting session at each of the center. The fun filled activity closed with the singing of the national anthem and pledge taking. It was indeed heart warming to see our students being patient and trying their best to interact and engage with the clients who are very much different from them.
Our annual flagship event, HCIS Gives Back 2023, is BACK!!!!
We started Y3 JCAS lessons with a Loud BANG!! An online briefing was conducted to all Y3 classes to prepare them for the excitement on 8 August 2023 as all students will go to the 3 SUNDAC centres to celebrate National Day with People of special Needs. All classes will be planning the programs on that day including setting up games and food booths. They will be also lucky draws, mass events relating to the National Day theme designed for the clients! Busy preparation for the students!
An Inaugural Exhibition by Y3 JCAS for JCAS experience!
On 12 May, all Y1 to Y3 students completed a mini exhibition at our Indoor Sports Hall where we showcased to other levels what we have done for the community and/ or what we have learnt in the semester. As the theme for Y3 is understand and working with people with special needs, Y3 students came together and brought their experiences with SUN-DAC to HCIS! Each class chose a form of disability (e.g. visual, hearing, physical, etc.) and came up with games that allow students to experience the disability in some ways.
Our meaningful outings with SUN-DAC where we help to keep the beaches clean!!
Our little loves to people with special needs as we make them some handicrafts.
Using our sense of hearing

It is harder than we thought!
Crossing the hurdle together

A meaningful and fun-packed day for Y3 students and over 100 friends with special needs!
After a series of Leadership Workshops, Y3 students came together to brainstorm for an hour of activities for more than 100 clients from three SUNDAC Centers - Upper Thomson, Choa Chu Kang and Bedok South. Activities were mainly carried out at the nearby parks, within the Centers and at East Coast Park.
Nostalgic activities, such as five stones, chapteh, charades, simple mass dance and birthday celebrations were amongst the many exciting programmes lined up for the people with special needs. In addition, together with the client, our Y3 students also conducted beach cleaning activities in the spirit of creating environmental awareness and echoing the spirit -"we all can do our part"! The student leaders also prepared many prizes, snacks and drinks for the clients after the eventful activities!

SUN-DAC WORKSHOP
On 13th January 2023, we were honoured to have Mr Yaros from SUN-DAC to conduct a workshop for the students. Through the workshop, students were engaged with hands-on activities which allow them to better understand the different types of disability. They were also equipped with practical advice on how to effectively interact with persons with disabilities. It was indeed an enriching session spent with Mr Yaros and we thank him for the great insights given to the students, teaching them to be a more inclusive world citizen.
