Uncle Tony's Workshop, 21st January
We learned how to germinate seeds using recycled bottles and potting mix from the veteran gardener, Uncle Tony.
Care must be taken not to break the fine root hairs of the seedlings when transplanting. The soil must be kept moist but not over watered.
Vegepod Activity, 11th February
After our seeds had germinated, we transplanted our seedlings into the Vegepod. We ensured that they were well spaced out for the maximum absorption of nutrients.
Our Vegepod, 14th February
Our seedlings have grown well over the weekend! :)
2nd March Harvesting our Vegetables
Repeating our bountiful harvest and looking forward to our organic vegetable meal :)
13th May Harvesting our Vegetables - Round 2
8th July : Planting our Vegetables - Round 3
The weather was hot and the weeds had overgrown our pods. We spent a good amount of time clearing the weeds and uprooting them. The soil was hard and caked so we had to use shovels to loosen the soil in order to plant our new seedlings.
16th July : Talk by MJ Biogirl - Keep Thinking!
Our eyes were opened to the elusive sea creatures teeming in the intertidal region of the beach. Unbeknownst to us, we have been crushing precious life under our feet when we indiscriminately step on sea life washed ashore in the intertidal zone. The way we handle these creatures, whether with a pincer or a pail, can actually determine if these creatures live.
22nd July : Diversity of Ethnicity
Today, we celebrated our diversity of ethnicity by donning clothes representative of our different ethnicity. It was fun to discern the different traditional costumes through their intricate designs adorned with accessories and with significant symbolisms.
We also had fun making plasticine objects that were symbolic or representative of our cultures. Check out our cool creations!
HCIS GIVES BACK!
8th August 2022
It was our annual giveback day and this time, we headed to the beach with some purposeful intentions. Our Green Council leaders shared about how we could inspect the trash that we picked up from the beach - it was interesting to note that some of the trash did not originate from our shore but were washed here from other faraway places. We also took pictures of the trash to further examine their origins. Many of us had a large collection - some of us collected 14kg of trash! We were keen to participate in our e-poster competition on our reflection of beach cleaning.
