Artists use the technique of "texture rubbing" to use the actual texture of an object to create an implied texture drawing of the object. It is one of the oldest techniques used in printmaking and creates incredible compositions of all the beautiful leaves in the Fall. Before there were cameras, scientists who studied plants, known as “Botanists”, would draw pictures of what they observed in nature to document their findings for other people to see. Leaves can be identified by their different shapes and colors in the drawings.
