OUR ROOTS:

In 1984, makeup artist/photographer Frank Toskan, along with salon owner Frank Angelo, started MAC Cosmetics in their Toronto home, placing makeup artists and artistry at the center of their radically new brand.

M·A·C grew by word of mouth, thanks to its impressive product quality and range of shades for all skin tones. In 1986 supermodel Linda Evangelista made Spice Lip pencil all the rage, followed by Madonna wearing Russian Red Lipstick on her Blonde Ambition Tour in 1990.

Estee Lauder recognized the uniqueness and potential of M·A·C, acquiring the brand in 1996.

BACK TO M·A·C:

M·A·C shares your commitment to a greener planet. Through our Back-To-M·A·C program, we are working to reduce the environmental impact of our packaging by giving your empties a second life and converting the rest to energy.

Consumers take their clean, empty packaging back to their nearest M∙A∙C counter.

For every six empty products returned, consumers may choose a free standard-size lipstick.

M.A.C. created Back-To-M.A.C. over 30 years ago right here in Canada, where the brand was born, to recycle or recover your used product packaging, and where possible, give the old plastic a sceond life. What cannot be recylced is convered to energy.

Return your clean, empty products in-store (or online).

They'll be shredded, washed and re-pelletized.

They'll then be recycled into the production of new materials or they'll be converted into energy.

Or, in some places they'll become a new M.A.C. product!*

VIVA GLAM was created in 1994 by Frank and Frank in response to the impact HIV/AIDS was having on their friends and family in the fashion community. 100% of the selling price of VIVA GLAM Lipstick is donated to the fund. Twenty-six years and over $500,000,000 USD later, M·A·C remains committed to those in need around the world. We evolved the mission of VIVA GLAM to not only focus on HIV/AIDS but to include LGBTQ equality and programs focused on women and girls.
