Safety and Cleaning Plan

On August 17, the Board of Education made the decision to start the school year in a remote learning setting. Hazel Park School District will continue to monitor virus data and public health in our community. At key points in September and October, this decision will be re-evaluated. If the Board of Education and administration determines it is safe, the district will transition to in-person learning. When the district returns to "in-person" learning, a comprehensive safety and cleaning plan will be implemented.

Our region is currently in Phase 4. During phase 4, schools can reopen with strict safety protocols in place. These protocols must include personal protective equipment, hygiene, increased cleaning and sanitization of schools, social distancing, cohort groups, and close collaboration with the Oakland County Health Division.

Hazel Park School District has elected to follow the same safety and cleaning protocols in Phase 4 and Phase 5 of the MI Safe Start plan.

Reducing the Spread of COVID-19

Hazel Park School District has developed a comprehensive plan for reducing the spread of COVID-19. The health and safety of our students, staff, and the community drive all decisions related to the learning environment, whether or not our schools are open for in-person instruction, and the health and safety measures in our schools. The district has followed all guidelines outlined in the MI Safe Schools Roadmap and continues to work closely with the Oakland County Health Department on measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our schools.

Hazel Park Schools will engage in ongoing communication and collaboration with the OCHD and will follow their guidance regarding:

  • Screening Protocols

  • Testing Protocols for Students and Staff

  • Responding to Positive Cases

  • Communication

  • Training

  • Consultation and Recommendations

Hazel Park School District will be supported in this work by the COVID School Nurse Program. The OCHD will provide School Nurses to prepare and support students, families, teachers and administration prior to and during the school reopening phase through December 2020. These school nurses will be a resource for information and training pertaining to COVID-19, prevention measures and response to positive cases identified in the schools.
