Review of trips and events

Ballyhass 23rd Sept

Rating: 4 stars.

Ballyhass is an outdoor adventure center. We left at 9. we went to the floating aquapark first for an hour. The whole aquapark was very slippery and everyone kept falling into the water. We had our lunch and then we went to do some rock climbing. We returned to the school at 3.

3 things I liked

  1. The big slide .

  2. Being able to float without much effort.

  3. Climbing the pole and doing the leap of faith.

2 things I learned:

  1. My wetsuit kept me really warm and I should wear it because its good.

  2. Its easy to have fun.

1 thing I might change.

I would have switched the activities around because getting out of a wetsuit is not easy and it is very tiring to swim around for an hour and you will be cold too.

Greenway Cycle 28th Sept

Rating: 5 stars.

The cycling trip was good. We left at 9 to collect the bikes we would use for the cycling trip. We started to cycle the Greenway trail just outside Newcastle. The goal was to get to Abbeyfeale.

3 things I liked:

  1. The scenery around the trail.

  2. Going fast downhill and standing up on the pedals.

  3. Being able to cycle with my friends.

2 things I learned:

  1. I'm very fast on a bike.

  2. It is nice to cycle in a group.

1 thing I might change.

We could have had more time to get to Abbeyfeale. It would have taken us 1 hour to finish the ride.

Microsoft Dreamspace Oct 23rd

Rating: 3 stars.

The Dream-space experience was not good because we didn’t get to see most of the campus on the virtual tour. The coding part was boring and we didn't actually get to learn any coding terms or basic coding algorithms and we didn't get to use Python or JavaScript.

3 things I liked:

I liked that we didn’t have to travel to Dublin.

We could do stuff at our own pace.

We could use a website which is free.

2 things I learned:

How to make a game.

How to make a pixel art character.

1 thing I might change.

I would rather go to Dublin because being there and experiencing it is way more fun and immersive.

Roller-skating 18th December

Rating: 4 stars

The rollerskating in RollerJam was fun. Even though that I didn't know how to do it, I ended up learning how to skate in just a 20 minutes

3 things I liked:

You could take breaks whenever you wanted

The rollerskates were comfortable

There was a one way system so nobody skated into each other

2 things I learned:

How to rollerskate

Crouching down lowers your center of gravity so it is less likely that you will fall over

1 thing I might change.

A bigger area would be beneficial because we would not be so clumped together.

Kayaking 28th April

Rating: 3 stars.

The kayaking with Kilfinane OEC was a ton of fun and I'd like to do it again but for the whole day instead of a mere hour and a half.

3 things I liked:

I liked that there was a few kayaks that could hold two people and we could kayak with our friends

We could do stuff at our own pace.

We got to swim in the lake and mess around.

2 things I learned:

In order to kayak properly you need to be consistent

Staying upright in a kayak is easier than it looks

1 thing I might change.

I would include mountain-biking with the kayaking.

Zip-lining 4th May

Rating: 4 stars

The zip lining in Farran Woods was a great experience and I would definitely do it again. The courses were challenging but easy at the same time. The trip was very short but the far away location was to blame as it took one and a half hour to get there.

3 things I liked:

The long ziplines gave you a chance to take a quick break and to take in some views

The courses varied in skill and height level, so you didn't need to go on the course you were not comfortable with

The courses were clearly laid out and you knew where to go next

2 things I learned:

Doing something a second time makes it easier

Simple climbing requires a lot of precision and energy

1 thing I might change.

Again I would like the event to be longer.
