Most college athletics programs are governed by an eligibility organization such as the NCAA or NAIA. Both of these organizations require a registration process that evaluates your high school transcript and SAT/ACT scores.

To qualify, you want to make sure you're taking the right classes and getting good grades. Get the Student Athlete Handout to be aware of key NCAA requirements.
