Google Overview

So, HCISD staff members have Google accounts, now what?

The First step is to get logged into your Google account.

  • Go to Google.com and click on Sign in (top right corner)
  • Type your Google username in the first box (be sure to include the @g.hayscisd.net) and your Google password in the second box.
    • If you do not know your Google password, send an email to technology help desk at techhelp@hayscisd.net to have the password reset.

You can see if you are logged in by hovering your mouse over the circle icon in the top right corner of the screen.

Now, you can use G Suite for Education

What is included in G Suite for education at Hays CISD?

The core services offered in our district include: Gmail (blocked for students under 5th grade, restricted for students in 6-8th), Calendar, Classroom, Drive, Docs (includes Sheets, Slides, Forms and Drawings), Groups (on approval), Sites, and Hangouts (for staff and HS students only).

Gmail (link to Gmail Help Center)

Gmail allows you to communicate with students (6-12th grades) to share upcoming events or projects. Students will learn the importance of having a "professional" account to use for school business (correspondence with communication with classmates and teachers). Gmail is not replacing Outlook for staff. Staff will need to keep a record of communication sent through Gmail. District assigned Outlook email should be used for all communication with staff members, parents, and students. At this time the district is not archiving communication through Gmail, so if a parent or student contacts you through your Gmail account you need to forward the message to your Outlook account.

Google Calendars (link to Calendar Help Center)

Google Calendars are helpful for keeping track of classroom meetings, deadlines, and upcoming events. You can create multiple calendars to keep yourself organized and share those calendars with students, parents, and staff.

Google Classroom (link to Classroom Help Center)

Classroom helps teachers create, assign, and collect student classwork and homework paperlessly. With Google Classroom, teachers can seamlessly integrate Google Docs, Google Drive, and Gmail to create assignments, provide feedback for in progress and completed work, and communicate with their students directly and with class announcements--all without using a single piece of paper. Students can work on assignments in Google Docs and turn it in with a few clicks.

Google Drive (link to Drive Help Center)

Google Drive is a file storage and synchronization service, available for your laptop, phone, and tablet. Drive allows you to store files in the cloud, share files, and edit documents, spreadsheets, and presentations with collaborators.

Google Doc (link to Docs Help Center)

Google Docs is a suite of products ( programs include Docs, Presentations, Spreadsheets, Forms, and Drawings) that lets you create different kinds of documents, work on them in real time with other people, and store your documents and your other files -- all online, and all for free. With an Internet connection, you can access your documents and files from any computer, anywhere in the world.

Google Groups (link to Groups Help Center)

Google Groups makes it easy for groups of people—such as project teams, departments, or classmates—to communicate and collaborate. You must submit a request to a digital learning coach to have a group created.

Google Sites (link to Sites Help Center)

With Google Sites, you can easily set up and update your website. Google Sites allows you display a variety of information in one place—including videos, slideshows, calendars, presentations, attachments, and text—and share it for viewing or editing with a small group, an entire organization, or the world. You always control who has access to your site.

Google Hangouts (Link to Hangouts Help Center)

Google Hangouts is a closed video conversation between you and up to ten people (who must be added via email address)
