Joining a new secondary school with many more students, classrooms and students than at primary level can be nerve wracking for our new Year 7 cohort. So, we go to considerable lengths to ensure new students feel as welcome as possible and hold several events to encourage new friendships:
Form allocation – wherever possible, we try to ensure students are put into forms with those who live near so that transport to/from school is with the students they spend the most time with. Student can ask for their friends to be in the same form as them
Senior Leaders visiting primary schools – during May and June, every primary school will be visited by a member of SLT to personally meet and chat with all the students coming from there to Leigh Academy. It is a chance for the primary school staff to share information and for the students to ask any questions.
Parents Information evening Tuesday 1st July- we are holding two sessions, one at 5pm and one at 6pm. We would love to see as many of you there as possible. If you missed this event, please click here to view and listen to the presentation.
Transition day on Thursday 3rd July – this day is a mix of fun activities as well as structured formal lessons to give our new cohort the sense of the step up in education from primary to secondary. Students meet and spend the whole day with their form tutor and the students which they will be with for years 7-9.
First day on Monday 1st September – only Year 7 and Year 12 are in school on this day so there is plenty of opportunity to familiarise themselves with the layout of the school whilst it is fairly empty. All the firsts can be achieved (first arrival, first meal, first break, first departure) in relative peace and quiet! At 5pm on this day, we held a Curriculum Evening for all new Year 7 parents. Thanks to all who attended and if you were unable to, please click here to view the slides.
