Homework is a vital tool to allow students to practice new skills and to secure knowledge they have learnt in class.
The homework tasks are set via Bromcom, and you will be able to see these via the My Child At School (MCAS) app. Teachers will set and explain homework in lessons and will give clear guidance on when it needs to be completed and how long it should take. Information about how to access the MCAS app will be shared with new parents.
Students will be able to access and complete homework on their Chromebooks. The homework set is listed on their Student Portal.Staff will often set work in the Google Classroom as well. Homework is typically completed online using websites such as Sparx (Maths, English and Science) and Language Nut (Spanish).
Students will have a minimum of three days to complete their homework. In year 7, each piece of homework should take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
The Library is open at break, lunch and after school, if students want or need support to do their homework in school. Homework club takes place after school from 3.15-4.15. Students can drop in to these sessions for support. If a student doesn't complete their homework on time, they will be set a 30 minute detention. Students will go to the department for which the homework was set. This means that subject teachers can help students to complete the tasks. When the work is completed students may leave the detention. Teachers would rather students talk to them if they are struggling or do not understand what is required.
