Community Based Instruction

CBI (Community Based Instruction), a hands-on learning program located within the community, is a critical component of the Bear Cave program primarily because as adults the community is where our students will need to use their skills to live a full life.  We strongly believe we need to connect our students to the community.   Students are out in the community on a daily basis whether it is going to the bank, walking to a store, general travel training, etc.

Students grocery shop on a weekly basis for their meals at the Bear Cave.  Students are responsible for creating their menus for the week, their shopping list and budgeting each week.

Students increase appropriate behaviors for work and community settings, independence and mobility and the ability to generalize skills and knowledge to new situations.
