About

What is the UHCC OER Initiative?

OER, or Open Educational Resources, are no-cost online learning materials which can be reused, revised, remixed, redistributed, and retained through the permissions granted through an open license applied to these works by their authors or creators.

UHCC OER is a seven campus initiative supported by the Office of the Vice President for Community Colleges to promote the adoption and creation of quality materials as alternatives to expensive commercial textbooks.

Open educational culture empowers everyone to reach their full potential through open access and fosters representation, equity, and inclusiveness. Our learning community and community partners have greater flexibility and access to education by embracing open culture values: examples include the use of openly licensed high-quality resources and open pedagogy strategies. We help prepare students for our diverse global community, and we practice respect and care for Hawaiian culture and the land in which we live.
