Leeward Lamakū: Course Starter PLC

Our IDT flagship professional development (PD) offering for Lamakū is the Leeward Lamakū: Course Starter PLC: A 6-week Professional Learning Community (PLC) designed to support your transition to—or improvement of—a course in Lamakū.

Workshops

Lamakū Intelligent Agents: A practical, hands-on two part workshop that involves learning about Intelligent Agents, experiencing it as a participant, and wrap up with a synchronous walk through of the back-end setup and application of this powerful facilitation aid within a Lamakū course site. Async (Pre-Work): February 9 - 18, 2026 in Lamakū. Sync Session: Thursday, February 19, 2026 from 1PM - 2PM on Zoom. 

Course Setup & Content Building

Resources instructors use when creating, organizing, or reusing course materials.

• Lamakū Quickstart Checklist: This resource is designed to help you prepare your Lamakū course site. It is useful if you are using Lamakū for the first time or preparing a new course or an upcoming term.

• Lamakū Onboarding Checklist: This document takes newly hired Leeward instructors, and/or instructors new to Lamakū (Brightspace) through important steps including access, initial processes, and resources. 

• Copying Content in Lamakū: This tutorial walks you through how to copy content in Lamakū, with step-by-step guidance for two common scenarios: copying content from another Lamakū course and copying a module within the same course. 

• How to Use Document Templates: This resource explains how to use document templates in Lamakū, including creating, editing, and copying template-based content.

• Customized Embedded Content: Instructions for embedding content, such as YouTube videos, Google Docs, Google Slides, and PDFs, into Lamakū webpages using the Content tool beyond the default Insert Stuff option.

• Asynchronous Online Discussions: Foundations, tutorials, and screencasts for facilitating Asynchronous Online Discussions (AODs) using the Lamakū Discussions tool.

• Accessing Creator+ and Lumi Features: This resource explains where to find and how to use Creator+ tools, Lumi AI features, and Lumi-enabled assignments, discussions, and quizzes.

• H5P+ Lamakū Instructor User Guide: H5P is a native tool in Lamakū for creating engaging online learning activities. This User Guide is designed to help you easily find the information you need to use H5P within Lamakū. You can also access the UH H5P FAQs.

• Google Assignments: An overview of Google Assignments as an External Learning Tool in Lamakū, with examples of instructional use cases and step-by-step setup instructions.

Assessment, Grading, & Extra Credit

• Grades: Guidance on completing the Setup Wizard; creating and editing grade items, categories, and schemes; and entering and managing grades.

• Bonus Points vs. Activity with Bonus Points: An explanation of the two approaches to offering extra credit in Lamakū, including when to use each and how to set them up.

• Exporting Grades from Gradebook: This resource explains how to export grades from the Lamakū Gradebook to a CSV or Excel file, including options for sections, identifiers, and formats commonly used for Banner grade submission.

• Impersonate Demo Student: This resource explains how instructors can enroll and impersonate a demo student in Lamakū to test course tools and experience the course from a student’s perspective, beyond what is available in View as Student.
