The Office of the Vice President for Community Colleges, in collaboration with campus and system instructional designers, is pleased to offer the Artificial Intelligence in Teaching and Learning (AITL) professional development course for UHCC instructional faculty and lecturers.
AITL is a five-week asynchronous course designed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of integrating AI tools into teaching through course guidelines, AI-supported or focused activities or assignments, and collaborative reflection. UHCC AITL will run from October 26 to November 29, 2026. Eligible participants who complete all course requirements will receive a *$300 overload payment. To apply for AITL, fill out the UHCC AITL application form by October 7, 2026.
These are 90-minute hands-on sessions for you to explore these tools and find opportunities to apply them to your own use cases.

These sessions are facilitated by Lauren Lum Ho, Instructional Designer, and hosted by the Kīpuka Native Hawaiian Center at Puʻuloa.
This semester-long professional development program helps instructors design, pilot, and refine a meaningful technology-supported teaching project. Participants will work with an instructional designer coach and may request program-funded access to an educational technology tool to support their project.
At the end of the program, you will have:
A completed or improved teaching project
Evidence and reflection on student impact
A plan for next steps
A short showcase video
Faculty, lecturers, and instructional designers across the UH System are invited to join a fall 2026 systemwide book study of The Joyful Online Teacher: Finding Our Fizz in Asynchronous Classes by Flower Darby. Campus study circles will meet for five sessions between September and November, followed by a virtual keynote and workshop with the author on December 3, 2026, from 2:00–3:30 p.m.
Participation also serves as the first step in the UH Online Education Champions Initiative and is required for consideration for the next phase, the ACUE Effective Online Teaching Practices Pathway certification. Join the book study by August 28, 2026, to request a UH-provided paperback or eBook.
Tech It Out Day 2026 brought Leeward CC faculty and staff together to explore emerging technologies, exchange ideas, and get hands-on with tools that support teaching and learning. This year’s event featured sessions focused on generative AI and Lamakū Course Design, along with a Tech Exhibitor hour.
