MUSCH 208 INSTRUMENTAL STUDY (NON - KEYBOARD)

Pre-requisites: Students must audition (please general tab for Instrument study for more information on auditions) for an ensemble in order to receive credit/subsidy Those who are accepted into a faculty-led ensemble can take partially-subsidized private lessons for one-half graded credit per semester with any teacher in the Greater Philadelphia area whose credentials are approved by the Department of Music. Lessons are between $85 or sometimes more an hour.
PLEASE NOTE: MUSCH208F01 is for .5 credit for private study INSTRUMENTAL (NON PIANO) ONLY.
For anyone interested in Jazz Studies for MUSCH 208 for credit : You may use the Jazz band at Swarthmore to fulfill your ensemble requirements.
However- if you would like to receive a subsidy you will need to be part of a Haverford College faculty led ensemble such as the Bi-College Chorale .
For vocal private study please register for MUSCH 209 For Piano, MUSCH 210.
NOTE : You will also need to fill out a subsidy form. The link to the form is on the music department page. Click on "Private Lessons" on the left side of the page and then you'll get to the Private Study page that has the link to the actual form. DEADLINE FOR FORMS IS Monday September 15

Setting Up Private Study Lessons
Students must audition for and be accepted into Orchestra or Piano Study to be eligible for taking lessons for credit and partial subsidy.
If you already know the teacher you wish to study with, contact them at the number provided on the Private Study page to arrange lessons as soon as possible.
If you’re not sure which teacher to study with, you may speak with Prof. Jacob, or call the teachers on the list to arrange to meet with one or more teachers with whom you think you might want to study.
YOU WILL NEED TO TAKE 10 one-hour lessons and complete a jury --held this Fall on Monday December 15 ,2025
Students arrange their private lesson times with their teachers and are responsible for the balance or the cost of lessons after subsidy.
Fill out the form for lessons and subsidy and submit it to the Music Office by the end of the second week of classes in each semester.
Register for private study instrumental: H 208 C/F 01 through the normal registration process. The Music Department cannot register for you.
