NOTE: The music department does not offer subsidy or credit for beginning lessons on any instrument except for piano (MU210.01)
Please see this Website for a list of Private Instrumental Teachers:
https://www.haverford.edu/music/applied-music-study-and-ensembles/private-study
Subsidies are available for all students taking private lessons for credit and (except for keyboard) participating in an ensemble. The subsidy awarded you will go directly to your private teacher. Students arrange lesson times and payment plans with their private teachers for any additional payment beyond the subsidy. Payment may be on a weekly, bi-monthly, monthly or other basis.
**Students must give his/her teacher 24 hours notice upon cancellation of a lesson. If the student fails to give the teacher adequate notice of cancellation the student will be required to pay for the lesson. This is an important courtesy all students are expected to adhere to.
Cancellations due to illness are acceptable. PLEASE BE RESPECTIVE OF YOUR TEACHERS SCHEDULE; Many do not live close to campus --so please avoid changing lesson times unless you have an unavoidable conflict. Changing a lesson only for personal reasons that are not related to academic/sports/ illness or family emergency are not acceptable.
Non-Academic
You may consult with the Director of Instrumental Studies for recommendations about beginning/resuming/continuing lessons which you plan to pursue on a non-academic, independent basis. This is useful particularly if, down the road, you wish to make the transition to doing private study for credit. However subsidy is available without credit.
