No prior knowledge of piano necessary. No audition required. HOWEVER YOU MUSCH CONTACT Professor Jacob prior to registering for this class.
The purpose of beginning lessons in piano are to support the fundamental knowledge of the art of music performance through elementary piano technique/rudimentary knowledge of music theory and history through listening assignments. Students are expected to develop basic piano skills and experience music through active participation; to explore the classical piano repertoire by listening to music of various forms and historical periods.
It is envisioned that the students will continue their music education with complimentary classes in Music History and Theory such as: MUSCH 229 Thinking about Music; MUSCH 110 Introduction to Music Theory; MUSCH 111 A Musical Millennium and additional courses in music theory and history.
Setting Up Private Study Lessons
Students will be assigned a teacher and given his/her contact information
YOU WILL NEED TO TAKE A MINIMUM OF 10 ONE HOUR LESSONS AND PERFORM A JURY AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER ON WEDNESDAY MAY 7
Fill out the form for lessons and subsidy and submit it to the Music Office by the end of the second week of classes in each semester.
Register for private study (MUSCH 210) through the normal registration process. The Music Department cannot register for you.
• You will need to contact YOUR ASSIGNED private teacher to arrange your lessons
Students receiving subsidy need to be part of a Faculty -led Ensemble: Chorale, Chamber Singers/Orchestra or Chamber Music
