Welcome!

Congratulations on completing your first chemistry course at Haverford! The next step in your chemistry journey is organic chemistry (aka: "orgo"). Fortunately, there are multiple resources that can help you both before and during the course, and this page walks you through these materials.

Course Syllabi

Now that you have one year of general chemistry under your belt, it's time to move on to organic chemistry! Similarly to general chemistry, there will be an organic chemistry course to take in both the fall and spring and the syllabi can be found here.

Major Resources

At the end of your sophomore year you will be deciding you want to declaring if you want to be a chemistry major, if you want to have a concentration in biochemistry and if you would like to be on track for ACS certification. Chemistry Student Group Guide

"The purpose of this Student Guide is to provide tips, resources, and advice from upperclassmen who have taken introductory chemistry to underclassmen. We aim to lessen the stress of navigating intro chem culture/classes/labs and making chem opportunities more accessible to students wanting to explore becoming a TA, getting to research, etc.. Becoming involved in the chemistry department shouldn’t be a hard or mysterious process!"

Textbooks and Study Materials

You made have heard that orgo is hard, but don't worry we are here to you make it easy. If you are interested in being exposed to chemistry research early, feel free to check out our research page and follow the link to a detailed guide of the different research areas of each faculty in the chemistry department. If you see a certain lab group that you want to join, reach out and ask if you could join. Some spots fill up quickly, so the earlier you reach out the better!
