Are you working by yourself or in a team?
team
What materials will you need for your project?
tin foil
What is your plan to create in this project?
cargo ship
What unique qualities will your project have?
it will hold at least 80 pennies
i reaserched the type of hull im using im gonna use a cargo hull
boat 1 (failed at 7 pennies) reason : hole
i finished my website and made my boat
boat 2 (44 pennies) Failed reason: the side is too small
i made a new boat
boat 3 (76 pennies) Failed, Reason: the front and back had a big hole
i made a new boat that held 76 pennies
boat 4 pass (pennies: 89)
i made a new boat that held 89 pennies it passed
list of 10
1 pontoon hull 2 cargo hull 3 V-shaped/flat-shaped hull
uses sections in case there's a break in the side
4 planing hull 5 soft edge planing hull 6hard edge planing hull
7 deep vee hull 8 shadow vee hull

Using tin foil, I created boats because we were testing which hull designs could hold the most pennies.
During this process, I learned how to make a boat that could float and hold weight.
The seven standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to the Empowered Learner standard because my goal was to design a boat that could hold 80 pennies, and I took charge of figuring out how to reach that goal.
A challenge I overcame during this project was the sides of my boat caving in on themselves. I solved this problem by folding the sides for extra strength and support.
If I had the chance to do this project again, I would change the amount of tin foil I used. The reason for this is because I always felt like I didn’t have quite enough material to build the design I imagined.
The Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers pathways in Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects most with the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School.
This project also connects to careers in engineering because I had to think like an engineer to build a working boat that could meet a specific performance goal.
