Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I will be working in a team.
What materials will you need for your project?
Cardboard boxes, duct tape, hot glue, scissors, and candy.
What is your plan to create in this project?
A vending machine.
What unique qualities will your project have?
It will have a pulling device to have candy come out.
Today I planned for my cardboard creation, got my partner, and got our shelve space.
Today we made a drawing of our design and started making it.
We worked on our cardboard creation and worked on how it worked.
Today I worked on my cardboard creation with my partner and we are close to finishing.
We finished the design for our cardboard creation and are almost done with everything
Finally all completed except for putting candy in the vending machine.
Using different materials like cardboard, tape hot glue, and an iPad, I created a vending machine with a video on my iPad of it working because I thought it would be fun to make something that can work and I would have fun making it. I also thought it would be cool to make a working vending machine. I also knew that no one else would probably make the same thing as us.
During this process, I learned that making a cardboard vending machine is actually very difficult in 6 days. This was difficult because we had never had made a working vending machine before. Another difficult thing was making a storage system for all of the candy that would also have a way to get candy out of it.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Innovative Designer because I created a cardboard vending machine without watching any videos or getting any instructions. Empowered Learner because I didn't need to keep asking the teacher how to do something.
A challenge I overcame on this project was trying to find out how to make a pulling device to get the candy out. I was able to do it by working with my partner on how it would work out without it messing up when we pull it. We also had to find out how it would get from the machine to the person trying to get candy.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change our pulling device. The reason why I would change it is because some of the candy fell out of the funnel when it wasn't supposed to. I would also change how the candy comes out so it doesn't go all over the place.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. It also connects to the Culinary Arts CTE program.
My project connects to careers in creative design and crafts because I had to create a cardboard box that would work as a vending machine with out using special materials most normal vending machines use. It also connects to industrial manufacturing because I had to make sure all of my pulling devices worked.
