Are you working by yourself or in a team?
By myself.
What materials will you need for your project?
iPad, Micro Bit.
What is your plan to create in this project?
A compass or something like a timer.
What unique qualities will your project have?
It wil show you the direction.
Today we got our micro bits and I made my name go across the screen.
Today I worked on different coding on the micro bits.
Today I started making an image of someone moving.
Today I worked on different coding like hot potato and sending messages to people.
Today I made a hot potato game that I can play with others.
Today I finished making my compass.
Today I worked on different projects to get better at coding.
Using an iPad, micro bit, and some coding, I created a compass because I thought it would be cool to make a compass and be able to code all of the parts to make it work. I also attempted to create a game of someone moving around a house but it didn't work out as great and it just looked like the images were connected. I was thinking of making a basketball game but I didn't think I would be able to code it in time.
During this process, I learned how to make different codes to do different actions. I also learned how to create codes to send messages and make images move across the screen which I could use with other people. This worked so that the people using the micro bit to message each other and could each see the other persons messages sent and not have it on their own screen.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Knowledge Constuctor because I did tutorials on how to make different codes. It also ties to Empowered Learner because I set a goal for what I wanted to make and had some of my classmates tell me how some of the codes worked.
A challenge I overcame on this project was coding the micro bit the right way. I was able to do it by doing some coding tutorials that showed me how different codes worked to create codes such as, hot potato or flappy bird. Also I was trying to make a compass and I didn't know how to show the direction it was facing at first.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change my code to have volume. The reason why I would change it is because I think it would be cool to have volume on my micro bit code. Also I would change what my screen looked like for different directions on the compass so it would say the direction across the screen instead of just showing the first letter.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Computer Programming CTE program at Hastings High School. It connects to it because I had to code my micro bit to do the right code.
My project connects to careers in STEM/Coding Educator and Curriclum Developer. It connects to STEM/Coding Educator because I had to code my micro bit and I could teach others how to. It also connects to Curriculum Developer because I would have to design educational workshops, lesson plans, and hands-on science activities that merge code with physical computing.
