Using a micro, I created a compass that displays my name. I wanted to know which way was north while also listening to my favorite song. This project allowed me to combine technology and creativity in a fun way.
During this process, I learned how to do basic coding on a micro. I explored different code blocks and functions to create my project. This experience helped me gain confidence in my coding skills and understand how technology works.
The seven standards of our class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project aligns with the Empowered Learner standard because I had the freedom to choose what I wanted to learn. This choice motivated me to take an active role in my learning and dive deeper into the coding process.
One challenge I overcame on this project was learning what code blocks meant. I was able to navigate this obstacle through trial and error, which taught me valuable problem-solving skills and increased my understanding of coding. This experience helped me become more confident in my ability to work with technology.
If I had the chance to do this project again, I would choose a different song. The song I initially attempted was too complex and lasted 4 minutes, which made it difficult to code successfully. Selecting a shorter, simpler song would allow me to focus more on the project’s other aspects.
Hastings High School offers a Career and Technical Education Program that includes fields such as Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects specifically to the Computer Programming CTE program, as it involved hands-on coding experience. This connection emphasizes the importance of practical skills in technology-related careers.
Additionally, my project is relevant to careers in mobile app development because it involved creating and understanding code. This experience not only deepened my coding skills but also gave me insight into the work that mobile app developers do. Exploring this field has inspired me to consider pursuing similar career paths in the future.
