8th Grade Innovation and Design Quarter 1 Reflection:
For quarter 1 I've done an assortment of different projects. My very first project was making a 3D print, I created a doorstop that was WAY too big, I knew how to make the designs on tinker cad like how to connect all of the parts, but what was difficult was making the shapes and letters the right size. I've also created a step counter with a micro bit, that was the easiest to program but it was hard to make it work in real life, like to actually make it count your steps. My third project I paired up with my friend mady and we created a video game using bloxels, I really liked collaborating on a project because we both got to share our ideas and put in our input to make our project even better. Something I thought was easy with the bloxels was creating the layout of the level or designing what we wanted the level to look like. What was hard was programming the level and making the level work, for example our monsters kept disappearing so we had to modify our levels so they wouldn't disappear. My Fourth and final project for this quarter was Programming a sphero bolt to complete an end in our homemade maze, for this project I also paired with mady. One thing that I had trouble with was having the sphero head in the right direction when it turned, so I had to add a java block that would direct the sphero in the direction I wanted it to. What was simple was creating the code for the sphero to complete the maze.
Out of all my projects my favorite one was creating the video game using bloxels, this was my favorite project because I liked the aspect that we got to create how each level worked and create a story line that went with each level. Another reason I liked this project was that creating the layout for the levels with the bloxels was simple and easy to use. My least favorite project was Programming the sphero bolt, I did not like this project because the sphero's are so temperamental, what I mean is if you didn't start the sphero in the same exact place or realign it each time the whole code would be messed up. My 1st quarter experience all in all was really good, I enjoy this class, although it can be tough at times it's still very fun and a good class to have.
