I made my project using Strawbees. My original design was just a Deltahedron, which is a shape made of triangles. I created the shape three times and then eventually put a cube in the middle. I started of with my project semi basic since it is my first time using Strawbees.
I learned a lot during this project. One thing I learned is that the five way piece connected to the straws creates a Deltahedron. Another thing I learned is that you can make cool designs by slightly bending the straws. The last thing I learned it that a cube can fit inside a Deltahedron.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. I believe my project ties to Empowered Learner because I took many trials to overcome my errors I learned while making my project.
I overcame many challenges while creating my project. One challenge I overcame while making my project was making the cube fit inside the Deltahedron. To be able to do this, I had to make half of the Deltahedron shape, and then fit the cube inside. When finished, I had to build up the rest of the straws to complete the shape.
If I could do my project again, I believe I would change a few things. One thing I would change is the difficulty of the project. I was just starting out, so I was trying to learn what shapes would come out of which connectors. I would also probably add more shapes, such as a triangle inside the square.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. I believe my project ties to the Construction Trades and Engineering Design CTE programs. I believe this because I had to come up with an idea of what shape I was going to make and actually construct it. I believe my project would tie to careers in architecture because of the use of shapes throughout my project.
