Using carboard and tape, I created a cardboard skateboard because I enjoy building things and wanted to make something creative and fun.

During this process, I learned how to design, measure, and test materials to make a structure stronger.

The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Innovative Designer because I had to come up with new ideas and improve my design to make the skateboard work.

A challenge I overcame on this project was making the skateboard strong enough to hold weight. I was able to do it by adding more layers of cardboard and reinforcing it with tape.

Given a chance to do this again, I would change the design of the wheels. The reason why I would change it is because they didn’t roll as smoothly as I wanted them to.

Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School.

My project connects to careers in engineering and product design because those careers involve creating and testing prototypes, just like I did with my skateboard.
