10 Good Ideas:
Programming it to pick up and carry a material for me
while I do something else.
Program it to deliver a note to a friend
Program it to take a picture
Program it to pick up hard to reach things for me
Program it to preform I'm races against people
Program it to take a video of classroom equipment
Program it to catch a fake crime scene in the act.
Program it to participate in games such as hot potato
Program it to play the classic game, tag.
Program it to take videos in 360
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I'll be working with Addella, so working in a team.
What materials will you need for your project?
We'll most likely need a drone, iPad, and an app to program with. As well as a drone's controller.
What is your plan to create in this project?
I'm thinking about starting the website the first day, taking off one free day, and by then Addella should be back from her trip, so I'll get her caught up before spending the rest of the week programming and setting up.
What unique qualities will your project have?
It'll be almost a movie, catching the crime in the act. If we do switch up the project to something like drone tag, it'll be unique because of it's interactive-ness, which is rare in many drone based things.
Today, like any Monday, was spent working on the website and getting it prepared for the project. I filled out the listt of 10 good ideas and the preparing questions as well. Addella wasn't here today, so I didn't get to discuss it with her- the project and the idea that is. I'm hoping that when she does come back, it's not too much information to take in and she can still get everything finished.
Today was spent mostly as a free day butt not completely, I did spend a good 15 minutes simply locating where the drone was, how to use it, and what site to program it with. It wasn't much, but at least it was something.
Today was the last day, and inside class we filmed the drone video. Finishing up the website was done at home. If possible some might be needed to be caught up on tomorrow, as we probably can't get it all done today. Either way, it was a super fun day and conclusion to the project. Addella will have to catch up, but in my opinion I think she'll be fine. (Picture from filming above).
Drone Video:
We thought day three was going to be the last day, but we were wrong. Because I forgot to upload the photos at home. So now, I'm spending today doing that instead when I could've given myself a free day. But I suppose it's fine, because it's really not too much work to do in the long run- I'm just complaining. We uploaded the videos and photos to the website today and I made sure Addella was caught up. (Picture of Mid-project work attached.)
Using the CoDrone and it's coding and materials, I created a crime-catching program for the drone because not only did it seem like a fun project, but I've also had skills in drones before because of my brother, who has played with things like Rc cars, drones, and many other remote or code controlled electronics. Because I know what using them is like and I have this experience, I knew it would be a fun and easy project. I also incorporated filming into this as it gave it some elements of the green screen project which I thoroughly enjoyed.
During this process, I learned how to compromise, and how to incorporate acting skills into technology with other people by me. I also learned how to use the drone controls, how to set it up and hook it up to my computer, and how to use it's code and the remote control simultaneously to avoid accidents and immerse people in the video, making it look much more realistic and fun to watch. I also learned how to do a project with a team of three, which is surprisingly significantly harder than a team of two.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Computational Thinker because like a computational thinker, I used coding to program something to do something to serve me and serve a purpose to others, using computational knowledge. I used computational knowledge when coding the drone, I used it when operating it and controlling it with the controller, as that's a computational component, as well as hooking it up and connecting it to my computer, which was unnecessarily and surprisingly challenging.
A challenge I overcame on this project was managing technical difficulties, such as the issue in which the drone wouldn't connect to my computer, as well as the issues when driving the drone with the controller, of course these are minor difficulties. I was able to do it by asking my friends for help and using the tutorial videos for help and guidance. I also had to turn to any computational opponent, Google, which was indeed very helpful, as it always is.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change my management of this project, which seems as a common thing I want to change in every project I've done recently. The reason why I would change it is because not only would it have been easier, and the project would've been done quicker, and then if it was indeed, done quicker, I would've had a free day today, which comparably would've been much more enjoyable in comparison. I also would've preformed better and had a better result if I had managed my time better, and then I would've been more more proud of the result.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Computer Programming CTE program at Hastings High School.
My project connects to careers in Precision Agriculture, Mapping and Surveying Engineering, and Media Entertainment because they all can include drones, for example in Media Entertainment, drones cane be used to film stunts, complicated angles, high recordings and more. That and sometimes in media the drone can even be the star of the show. For other careers, drones can be used fore drop of, they can also use the common camera feature to map out places like farms using AI or a human to control and mark it down as it flies. In agriculture, drones are common used to drop down seeds and deliver products, as well as mark crops and spray them. It makes the entire process easier for some many reasons, and there's probably even more I have missed. Either way, drones are extremely useful and used in many circumstances.
